Kwesta: "I wasn't trying to make a radio hit"

One of the surprise hits over last few months was a track by local hip hop artist, Kwesta called Kings Speech. The track was dropped the day after the controversial Hottest MC’s list was announced and features some of the best lines we’ve ever heard from Kwesta.

The Juice caught up with Kwesta to talk about the track. “When I put the song out there I hoped that it would be massive," he says. “But I wasn’t trying to make a radio single or anything like that, I just wanted to rap and address the issues in the game,” he adds.

He says many of his fans are attacked for being Kwesta fans and that the goal of the song was to provide those fans with enough ammunition to go back to their haters and show them that Kwesta is a big deal, and maybe convert them.

Although the song was released a day after the Hottest MC’s list was announced, Kwesta says the track has nothing to do with the list. “I wrote the song about a month or two before the list came out -  just because I needed to talk about some stuff. But the list did inspire me to drop it- just to show them I’m not worthy of number 9 on the list,” he says.
