Johannesburg - The Juice got a chance to talk to the legendary comic ahead of him receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Savanna Comic's Choice Awards.
Joe, famous for his character S'dumo in the Zulu language comedy series 'Sgudi 'Snaysi, says he thinks the reason S'dumo was so loved was because the character is someone "everyone can relate to".
Something he says South African comedy can learn from.
"I think a lot of people are sort of adapting to international trends. Our stand-up comedians are doing a great job, but if they can include what is really happening in the country, the characters of the township, they will get more and more recognition for what they do," Joe tells us.
He says this is an "evolution of comedy" in South Africa. An evolution that has given the world Trevor Noah.
"Trevor Noah is something out of this world. That talent is international. And that is what Trevor does! He comes up with real South African situations and that's what makes him real and deliver them professionally. He is going to take something new to them. He is our number 1. No doubt about it," he says.
Now, if only he can get Trevor to say "It's good, good, good, it's good its nice!"
