Loyiso Gola lambasted for Wits protest tweets

Johannesburg- Comedian Loyiso Gola has come under fire on social media for comments made over the Wits protest, in Johannesburg on Monday.

Students at Wits University have been striking since last week over the increase of university fees. The university has since been shut down, as protesting students blocked off all entrances and exits to the campus.

On Monday morning the protest action spread from Wits University to Rhodes University and the University of Cape Town, which has also been shut down.

Weighing in on the situation Loyiso took to Twitter where he re-posted a video of striking students. The comedian drew attention to the fact that one of the students in the video was wearing a pair of sneakers worth R2000.

Loyiso tweeted that the student should not be protesting over "expensive things" while he is "wearing expensive things," as life as whole is expensive.

This obviously did not sit well with Twitter users who lashed out at him for the tweet. Loyiso quickly found himself trending on the social media platform over the tweet.

But the comedian hit back at the criticism saying that the "angry tweets" has never changed anything.

Tweeps dug into Loyiso labelling his comment "irrelevant."
