Mfundi Vundla not deterred by Uzalo's ratings

Johannesburg- Generations: The Legacy creator Mfundi Vundla has shrugged off Uzalo's recent viewership ratings.

Mfundi reportedly congratulated the telenovela, but admitted that it is not their main competitor in the industry.

Earlier this week it emerged that Uzalo had de-throned Generations to become the number 1 watched soapie in the country.

According to the latest statistics released by TVSA, Uzalo and Generations kicked off the month on par with each other, both having 5 267 000 viewers.

On Monday Uzalo broke the tie to claim the number 1 slot, raking in 5 925 000 viewers, while Generations followed with 5 794 000 viewers.

Mfundi told Sowetan that he does not view the telenovela as competition for Generations. "We have competition in Ashes to Ashes, if you look at the ratings, you'll realise that it's going down. That's one major challenge we've overcome. Uzalo has no competition in its timeslot, we have Ashes to Ashes. Uzalo follows Generations - its rise has from day one been on the momentum created by Generations," he said.

When Ashes to Ashes first aired, Mfundi didn't seemed fazed by it and now just a few months later, has admitted that it is competition.
