Local pop muso, Michael Lowman is pretty cool. His first single went straight to the top of the charts and his second single from his debut album, Crayon Boxes, looks to be going the same way. He’s so good in fact that he’s been asked to open for American Singer-songwriter Tori Amos on her SA tour in June. We caught up with Mr Lowman to find out his feelings about the announcement and what he’ll be wearing to the gig.
You’re opening for Tori Amos. Congrats! Are you excited?
Are you kidding me? Of course! It’s incredible! I’m really excited. I’m not the most incredibly knowledgeable Tori Amos fan but I have such a deep appreciation for the way she writes she is fantastic!
What’s the first thing you did when you heard the announcement?
No, nothing that crazy. I just put the phone down and carried on driving. It had been in the pipeline for a while so it was pretty much just confirmation of the fact.
So, would you ever put on a dress and try impersonating her?
You're assuming I haven’t wore a dress before.
Oh! Go on then, Michael, tell us you would wear a dress and sing Tori Amos for us.
Hahahaha. I don’t know if I can agree to that but I might give it a go. I’ve been known to wear a dress and heels better than most men. I guess if Tori Amos was allowed to wear a silky Louis Vuitton dress I would die my hair red and go on stage as Tori.
Brilliant! What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever wore to a gig then?
Ahhh, nothing exciting. I like to dress up for gigs though. I wear a suit and, if I’m allowed, I smoke a cigar. Talking of gigs, I like to talk a lot during gigs and I guess it really irritated this old man when I was in LA because he started shouting at me during a show and telling me to shut up and start singing!
So tell us, is there anyone special in your life at the moment? Anyone you can serenade with a song?
Nah. I’m just a lonely morbid soul but you have a pretty amazing voice. I’d like to get to know you better. Will you go out on a date with me?
Right then! I think that’s done....
