Ms Cosmo: “Most artists who aren't from Jozi struggle with humility”

Ms Cosmo is a name that has been on the rise for some time now, but 2014 will be remembered as the year she truly made her mark on the industry.

The Juice caught up with Ms Cosmo to talk about how she copes in the industry and learnt that it’s her Joburg upbringing that keeps her humble.

“I think it’s important in this industry to understand who you are and what your position is,” she tells us, adding “you need to know where home is and call home”.

She says the fact that she was raised in Joburg allowed her to gradually understand the environment and industry she was getting into better than someone who wasn’t raised in the city.

“When people become a bigger brand and become a little arrogant, it’s because they don’t necessarily have someone around them that can bring them back to reality. I have the same friends I had 5-10 years ago who are honest and who will remind you who you really are,” she says.

“I’ve seen how coming to Joburg has changed people. They are different compared to who they were when they were growing up. The pressure is there to change when you come into Joburg. The city is more fast paced and things are more accessible to them and they become more arrogant when they go home. But at the end of the day it’s their choice”.
