TV host Lawrence Maleka prefers a little privacy but he let us in on some interesting facts about his life when we had a chat with him.

  1. He grew up in Soweto and loves the township life with all his heart. His gutsy attitude comes from surviving hard-knocks in the township.
  2. While growing up he was overweight and he was not the obvious choice with the ladies.
  3. He is shy and socially awkard at times.
  4. Lerato Kganyago encouraged him to audition for his first presenting gig at Soweto TV.
  5. All his acting gigs were never part of a plan, they all happened by complete chance.  His industry friends have offered him roles they thought he would be perfect for. He is all about being a TV host.
  6. Family is important to him. His father is an important part of his life, from appreciating a good shoe to taking good care of a woman.
  7. He deals with the love and appreciation from women the best way he knows how without getting too personal and pursuing crushes. He will take a picture and make time for small-talk with fans but nothing more.
  8. He plans to have presence on an international stage, he admires American TV show host Ellen Degeneres. He has no plans to leave the country but wants to be known internationally as one of Africa’s finest TV hosts.
  9. He prefers to keep his life private and his circle small because it is hard to find genuine people in the industry he is in.

10.   He is a businessman, although he doesn’t want to divulge his business interests, he is in businesses that require him to wear a suit and tie.
