3 local comics answer 10 random questions

Johannesburg – The Kings and Queens of Comedy show is bringing some of SA's best comedians together for two amazing nights - the first taking place in Durban on 9 February and the second in Johannesburg on 10 February.

In honour of the show, we decided to ask some of our favourite local comics on the line-up a couple of questions to help us get to know them better.

Casper De Vries

1.  If you could swap lives with any local comedian for a day, who would it be? 

Deep Fried Man. I want to feel what’s it like to NOT be funny. Joke. Just a joke.

2. If you were not in comedy what would you be doing? 

Most probably actor or editor.

3. How would you describe your job to a child? 

This uncle tries to be funny by telling the truth in a humorous and filthy way. Truth hurts though. So sometimes uncle gets a klap. 

4. Describe your life using a film title.

Some Kind of Wonderful

5. What would your autobiography be called?

Casper the Friendly Host.

6. What’s one thing you wish to accomplish in the next 5 years?  

I have accomplished all I can. The next step is sainthood.

7. What do you think about when you’re alone in your car?

Absolutely zilch. Nada. Fokkoli. As I don’t have a car.

8. What were you like in high school?  

Confused. Hated. Popular. Funny.

9. You’re a new addition to a crayon box, what colour would you be and why?

Deep voilet Purple. I hopefully won’t be used a lot and so outlast the other colours.

10. What was the last thing you watched on TV?

Ru Paul Drag Race All Stars.

Krijay Govender

1. If you could swap lives with any local comedian for a day, who would it be?

Martin Jonas. I could live in his head and properly steal some material. I enjoy the way he views the world.

2. If you were not in comedy what would you be doing?

Straight jacket or prison.

3. How would you describe your job to a child?

Did you see the move IT? That's me but slightly happier.

4. Describe your life using a film title.

Dumb and Dumber.

5. What would your autobiography be called?

Krijay, who's he?

6. What's one thing you wish to accomplish in the next 5 years?

Stay employed. Stay alive. Stay married. Stay hungry. Just stay.

7. What were you like in high school?

Happy and an over-achiever.

8. You're a new addition to the crayon box, what colour would you be and why?

Blue. Because all kids draw skies.

9. What was the last thing you watched on TV?

Peppa Pig.


Khanyisa Bunu

1. If you could swap lives with any local comedian for a day, who would it be?

Trevor Gumbi, just to see what is going on in his crazy mind. 

2. If you were not in comedy what would you be doing?

I'd still be stuck in the classroom, teaching learners.

3. How would you describe your job to a child?

I get paid for sharing strange stories, sometimes bend the truth here and there.

4. Describe your life using a film title

Coming to America.

5. What would your autobiography be called?

My side of the story.

6. What’s one thing you wish to accomplish in the next 5 years?

Film production, I want to start producing movies. I want to be a reputable producer. 

7. What do you think about when you’re alone in your car?

My next move, I always think and plan about how to make myself a better comedian. 

8. What were you like in high school?

I was very naughty but very intelligent in class. 

9. You’re a new addition to a crayon box, what colour would you be and why?

Blue. 

10. What was the last thing you watched on TV?

A recorded episode of Scandal. I work on radio between 17:00 and 20:00 mid-week so I never get to watch myself on Scandal when it airs. So I record it then watch when I get home.
