4 cool facts about the Cape Town Carnival

Cape Town – The Cape Town Carnival held a press conference on Thursday and The Juice was there. 

At the event it was announced that the theme for the Cape Town Carnival is "Mother City, Mother Nature" and it will take place on 17 March 2018.

We got a taste of some of the entertainment we can expect and also heard speeches from some of the key role players like Naspers CEO Bob van Dijk who said:  “The participating communities are broad and inclusive, and seeing the far-reaching positive impact that the Cape Town Carnival has on their lives is what makes this event so important to us as a sponsor. This is something that’s very close to our hearts because our roots are in South Africa, and we’re proud to be able to contribute to the Cape Town Carnival.”

Here are 4 cool facts about the festive gathering to show you how the carnival changes lives for the better, along with some snaps and videos:

1. More than 1 500 performers in 43 performing groups from 27 different areas participate in the Cape Town Carnival.

2. The Cape Town Carnival also plays a significant role for the region’s youth, with 70% of participants aged between 16 and 25.

3. The carnival brought R41 million to the city last year. 



4. 48% of visitor spending is on accommodation.
