Cape Town - We've all heard stories from TV legends about how long it takes to crack it in the entertainment industry and the struggle to get more roles and gigs.
Even though things have become a lot easier over the years, the current generation of TV stars have learnt from their seniors and are putting their apples in different baskets.
Move! looks at a few celebrities who have business outside of their usual TV jobs.
DRINK UP
Best known for her popular phrase "champagne darling!", TV personality Bonang Matheba (31) has now launched her own champagne brand called House of Bonang. She works with the same store that holds her underwear range called Distraction by Bonang. Social media was a buzz after the announcement.
Sharing on her Instagram page, the former Live Amp presenter said, "Two years in the making, I introduce my brand new Brut and Brut Rosè MCCs. It’s time to celebrate!"
Last November, actress and media personality, Khanyi Mbau, launched her Gin brand called I am Khanyi.
Earlier, comedian Mashabela Galane also released his Gin brand called ‘Moringa Gin’.
The Massive Metro FM’s DJ S’bu, real name Sibusiso Leope (41), has been promoting his energy drink Mo Fire, which got him fired from his previous radio job after using their platform to advertise his product.
The drink can now be found at one of the supermarket chain stores.
SEXY NUMBER
Former Club 808 presenter, Thando Thabethe (28), is not only a TV presenter and an actress but also an entrepreneur.
She has starred in SABC1’s Generations – The Legacy and Mzansi Magic’s House Keepers. She is now featured in a local film Love Lives Here where she plays the role of Zinhle Malinga.
In 2017, she launched her own lingerie brand called Thabooty. In 2018, Thabooty also launched their eye-catching swimwear.
FOOD
Scandal!’s Dintle, actress Mapaseka Koetle-Nyokong (29), has her own coffee shop which she runs with her husband.
The food business is quite demanding and needs someone who is hands-on.
The star previously told Move! That having her husband as a business partner makes things easier. "Fortunately, my husband can work from anywhere and can be at the restaurant to manage things," she said.
FARMING
Actress, Brenda Ngxoli (39), owns a crop and animal farm in a village in the Eastern Cape. In a previous interview with Move!, when she was healing from sexual abuse, Brenda said that she had to leave the city of gold to take a break from city life and used the farming to heal.
Also into farming is former SABC1 Shift presenter, Kamohelo Bombe (26). The young lady from Limpopo left the TV glam for chicken farming.
