5 local celebs who reverted to their maiden surnames after getting divorced

Cape Town - It’s always a bitter pill to swallow seeing our favourite celebrity couples split and going their separate ways.

After releasing a statement earlier in the year about ending her 15-year long marriage, Nhlanhla Nciza has reintroduced herself to Mzansi as Nhlanhla Mafu.

1. The Mafikizolo singer shared the news on her Instagram page with the caption: "A whole Ms Mafu, some call her uMa ka Luvuyo. I call her a badass and a beautiful human for getting up and showing up even when times were tough Ndingu Nxumalo, Umkhatshwa, uZwide, umazalw'iNkosi #NgekeBalunge #MafikizoloNgekebalunge."


She has been private about her divorce from her former husband TK Nciza.

In a statement she released in June she mentioned how she would like privacy for the sake of their children.

She joins other celebrities who have reverted back to their maiden names.

1. Enhle Mbali Mlotshwa

One of the first signs that confirmed divorce rumors between Enhle Mbali and Black Coffee was when the actress officially changed her surname on social media from Maphumulo to Mlotshwa.


3. Unathi Nkayi

The Idols judge reverted back to her surname after her split with Thomas Msengana.

Talking on BET’s Behind the Story she revealed that she kept her husband’s name for her kids however noted that for her day to day life and for professional work she now used Nkayi.


4. Azania Mosaka

There was once a time when she was known as Azania Ndoro because of her marriage to sports presenter Tony Ndoro.

However, Azania went back to her maiden name after her divorce with the then SuperSport presenter.


5. Carol Tshabalala

Previously known as Carol Manana because of her six-year long marriage to her husband, Carol got divorced in December 2006 while she was pregnant with her second son.

She told BONA how she felt trapped in her marriage and had been looking for an out for the longest of time.

In 2011 when she left SABC Sport to join SuperSport she used the move as an opportunity to rebrand.
