5 minutes with Anga Makubalo

Cape Town - We chatted to the newest addition to the Isidingo cast, Anga Makubalo, about his new character, Obakeng "Mlahlwa" Bhengu.

After struggling to get hold of this in-demand actor for some time, we finally got through to Anga for a quick chat about his latest role on Isidingo. Feeling a little under the weather, the actor was resting at home, going through his latest batch of scripts.

"It's been such a pleasure working on Isidingo," he started off by saying. He explained that he usually isn't as nervous starting a new role, and finds it a little easier to be part of a production from season one, "I'm a little more nervous being part of an on-going production."

One of the first questions he asked himself was, "Are they going to like me?" But the actor is clearly over the initial nerves, "Everyone has been so welcoming and I've been very comfortable on set. Everybody has been absolutely amazing."

And he couldn't stop talking about what an honour it is to be working with such a talented group of people.

When asked about his character, Obakeng, he says: "He is a loose canon. He was abandoned by his parents at a young age and lived on the streets for some time. He is troubled and fears nothing. Obakeng is very emotional and gets very jealous and angry quickly."

Juggling his music and acting career has been a little tricky. "I do gigs over the weekend and shoots during the week." But it doesn't come without pressure. "Sometimes I'm really nervous that I'm going to miss my flight, especially when travelling between cities, but it all comes down to time management."

He is most excited about working with such a great cast and can't wait for people to meet Obakeng.

Anga makes his first appearance on Isidingo, Thursday, 26 June on SABC 3 at 19:00.
