5 stunning black and white photos of David Phetoe from the 1970s

Cape Town - South African veteran actor and director David Phetoe died at the age of 85 on Thursday.

Phetoe starred in the SABC soapie Generations when it first premiered in the 1990s and the sitcom 'Sgudi 'Snaysi.

He is also famous for his role in the film Cry The Beloved Country (1995).

Not only known for his many roles on TV, Phetoe was also a theatre producer. 

Following his death, tributes and messages of condolences have flooded social media

The actor is survived by his two sons and a daughter.
