Johannesburg – These local stars started their year with one goal in mind – own it! We’re more than halfway through 2017, but if you still need some inspiration to get up and get going, take a look at these local celebs who have made 2017 one of their greatest years yet.

1. Black Coffee

Black Coffee continues to make great strides in his career, both locally and internationally. In 2017 alone, the DJ has partied in Ibiza, rubbed shoulders with some international A-listers, became the ambassador for Axe, and got his own radio show on Beats 1 Radio

2. Nomzamo Mbatha

This TV personality won the hearts of an international audience when she hosted big gigs like the BET International Awards and the Essence Music Festival. Of course, she’s also the brand ambassador for Puma, and even got to hang out with supermodel Cara Delevingne.

3. Cassper Nyovest

The release of his album Thuto continues to bring major success for local rapper Cassper Nyovest in 2017. The star churned out the hit track Tito Mboweni which has well over 2 million views on YouTube. He has also had the opportunity to do a lot of travelling, and as a result has bumped into quite a few international celebs – including Paris Hilton who gave him one hell of a compliment

4. Bonang Matheba

Do we even have to explain why Bonang is winning at life? How about we just create a mini list?

1. She wrote a book (which is already a bestseller)

2. She has her reality show

3. She had one super OTT 30th birthday party for herself

4. And, among the many gigs she hosts, she’s also hosting the Houston Iconic Fashion Week

5. Somizi

Another star who became an author in 2017 is Somizi. And his book is doing amazing as well. But besides his book, the star is also enjoying major success on both radio and television.

6. Trevor Noah

Honestly, it would be a sin for us to leave Trevor off this list. The Daily Show host continues to impress us, flying the SA flag high in the USA. 2017 also saw Trevor walk away with a Nickelodeon Kids Choice Award – so it’s settled, he’s loved by both young and old.

7. Terry Pheto

It’s hard to keep track of all the awards Terry Pheto has been nominated for in 2017 alone. The star received a nod in three different categories at the International Achievment Recognition Awards (IARA), as well as a Black Reel award just to name a few.
