Metro FM’s top 40 countdown host, Kyeezi (real name Khanya Siyengo), has been named as the new afternoon drive host on Good Hope FM’s The Great Drive. Quite fitting considering he represents everything aspirational and fresh about Cape Town. He’s the go-to person for what’s hot in street wear, events, local music and aspirational leadership.
We hung out with the sneaker fanatic as he told us a few interesting things about himself.
I’d describe myself as . . . your ordinary dude who wants to do the extraordinary.
What people don’t know about me is . . . I’m a home body. I love my couch and chilling at home watching music videos and weird series like Gossip Girl (I know right?).
Growing up in Cape Town . . . is just different. You deal with some real challenges before you open your mouth – it makes you grow up faster and stronger though.
The biggest misconception about me is . . . I’m actually very quiet, which can be confused for being stand offish. I have no problem keeping to myself.
What I enjoy most about being on stage is . . . the energy from the crowd, when they’re loving the vibe I’m bringing or the music I’m playing.
I’ll always be grateful for . . . the people who have my back. There’s a long list – they know who they are. And my headphones!
When I wake up in the morning, I first . . . reach for the fridge, I’m always hungry.
My biggest insecurity growing up . . . My ears – I used to get called Dumbo. Also being very thin and tall I had some pretty embarrassing nicknames.
If I could change one thing about the SA entertainment industry it would be . . . We shouldn’t feel like we have to take someone out to get ahead, the pie is huge and we can all eat.
My celebrity crush is . . . It’s weird but I really dig Da Les’ vibe, from his style to just being a cool dude.
My biggest inspiration is . . . Jay-Z and my parents.
You’d never catch me wearing . . . A speedo! Nope, nope, I’m good.
My favourite thing to eat is . . . anything home cooked. I’m not the cooking kind and so homemade food always hits the spot.
I really don’t like it when . . . the shower head is right next to my head.
The one place I’d love to travel to one day is . . . New York City with three empty bags for the sneakers I’ll get there!
