Legendary singer Robbie Malinga wormed his way into our hearts back in the day when he released his debut album, The Heavyweight, and has stayed there ever since. Although the award-winning artist passed away in December, his music lives on.

Here are five songs that leave us lighter after listening to them.

Inhliziyo Yam

Robbie was known for pouring his out his heart in his love songs and this tune illustrates that perfectly.  Here he sings about how he’s tired of dating, has found his soul mate and wants to get married.

Sobabili (ft Kelly Khumalo)

This song was released in 2008 and talks about how a couple who have decided to be together because of love will not be moved to break up by outside influences.

Sokwenzenjani (ft Naima Kay)

This song was released in 2014 and talks about the disappointment of a failing relationship that has changed with time. It talks about the loss of respect between partners, leading to the end of a once-great relationship.

Mporo Mporoma (ft Sbu)

Robbie broke away from his usual sound for this kwaito song. Featuring Sbu, the pair made a hit song that had the catch phrase “Zamporoma-zamporoma” (It is going down).

Hold On (ft Fiso)

Robbie came together with former R&B singer Sifiso Fakude in the ‘90s to create gospel magic. The song encourages people to hold on during difficult times and to always trust in the Lord as he is the Creator of everything.
