D’banj reflects on his son death: ’I thought it would be easier, but the memories are so fresh’

Almost two years after his son died in a drowning accident, Nigerian superstar D’banj is still coming to term with the loss.

The rapper and his wife, Lineo Didi Kilgrow, lost their 13-month-old son, Daniel Oyebanjo III, in June 2018. According to Pulse Nigeria, the drowning happened at D'banj's Ikoyi residence, in Lagos, Nigeria, while the artist was at the BET Awards in Los Angeles.

D’banj took to twitter this week and shared how he is still learning to come to terms with Daniel’s passing.

“For the first time in 21 months I slept in my room ... I thought it would be easier but the memories are so fresh,” he said.

He also expressed how he hopes he can be an example of strength for others who are struggling during the Covid-19 pandemic, as his fans have been for him since his loss.

“Although my family and I have been through so much in this time, I woke up this morning with a grateful heart knowing that I can be a source of visible hope to anyone going through a hard time due to this pandemic or any personal issue. Just know that tomorrow will be better, and you can turn your pain into motivation. Stay strong,” the award-winning artist shared.
