My Zulu Wedding Movie is loads of entertainment, if the cast and crew’s social-media sharing is anything to go by. The film features well-known celebs like Kelly Khumalo, Pallance Dladla and DJ Tira, as well as international actors Darrin Henson and Carl Anthony Payne.
DRUM chats to DJ Tira about his first acting gig.
Is acting something you have always wanted to do or did it just happen?
Yeah, it’s something I always wanted to do. That’s why I gave it my best.
How did you get the role?
I just got a call from the production, which means they believed I could act, so I went for it.
Is this the start of a new career path?
I wouldn’t say, but should any other opportunity come I’ll definitely go for it.
How different is acting from music?
You need to have talent, just like in music, but it’s not that different. You need to know how to act because I know how to sing, so acting is a different type and I’m happy with what I did. When recording a song, you do it over and over again until you get it right, same as acting.
How was it working with international actors?
I enjoyed it a lot because they’re cool guys and it was fun.
What challenges did you face during filming?
The director wants you to act some stream in a certain way so it took me some time to get to understand the role.
