Johannesburg - If there is anything we learned from DJ Zinhle’s interview on Real Talk with Azania Mosaka on SABC 3, it’s that she loves her daughter, has forgiven AKA and is living to empower other women.

The 34-year-old DJ was a guest on the show on Tuesday night and spoke about co-parenting with the father of her child, rapper AKA and her latest book Meeting Your Power, which she co-wrote with Nokubonga Mbanga.

Speaking on her relationship with AKA, Zinhle said that they were in a good space.

“It took a lot of work. Parenting is a tricky thing.”

When it comes to parenting Kairo she said, “He (AKA) is strict and I bend quickly. He is a fun person but he can switch up so quickly. Sometimes when Kairo does something I say ‘I’m going to tell your dad about this’ and she says ‘Well, I’m going to tell daddy too’ but he is a really cool dad.”

She explained that after all the drama, her and the 30-year-old rapper sat down and decided that they cannot rob their daughter of moments with both her parents just because they are not together.

“We want to show people that co-parenting is possible and just be an example.”

But this doesn’t mean that she did not go through a lot when they first separated.

After a viewer asked a question about moving on and forgiveness, Zinhle recalled a time when Kairo was just two months old and she was an emotionalwreck.

“When Kairo was two months old, one day, my emotions were all over and I remember I looked at Kairo and I said 'Kairo daddy’s gone' and I just cried,”

“But Kairo just gave me this look that reassured me…even at that age… it’s like she was saying mommy look around you, you have a job, I’m here, you are a beautiful person, focus on the things that are going well.”

When asked by Azania why she chose to open an Instagram account for her two-year-old daughter, Zinhle explained that it was a way for her to get over her fear of something happening to her only child.

“I was so nervous about getting her out there, I was thinking about a lot that could happen. It was a way for me to get over my fears. I didn’t want the fear to cripple me anymore,”

“Kairo loves pictures and she asks me to take pictures of her all the time.”

Speaking about her own mother, Zinhle said that her mother taught her respect.

“My mother taught me respect, I am such an independent woman because of my mom and those are the type of things I want to pass on to Kairo. I want her to stand up on her own.”

When asked if she wants anymore kids, Zinhle said that she wants one more child.
