Drum’s best songs of 2018

As we get closer to the end of 2018, we thought we should look back at the biggest hits of the year.

The popular hits that rocked dance floors, inspired memorable moves, and gave us all the feels with catchy lyrics and cool beats.

So, in no particular order, here’s a list of the songs we loved this year. Share with us your favourite songs you think could be a crossover song to 2019.

1. BANOMOYA – Prince Kaybee

Prince Kaybee released Banomoya featuring Busiswa and TNS in August this year. The song has over 4 million views on YouTube. The song is also number one on Metro FM Top 40 and included in SABC Summer Song of the year list.

 

2. MACALA – Mlindo The Vocalist

The new kid on the block, Mlindo The Vocalist collaborated with Kwesta, Thabsie and Sfeesoh. The song’s video was released in September and currently has over a million views on YouTube. It is also in the SABC Summer Song of the year list.

 

3. Asphelelanga – Vusi Nova

The song which has been sung everywhere, including football matches and rallies, features poet Jessica Mbangeni. It pays tribute to fallen Mzansi heroes. Even though it doesn’t have an official music video, it’s been receiving massive airplay.

 

4. Bhampa – Sphectacula and DJ Naves

The Kings of The Weekend came back with another banger early in the year. The song which has Gqom sound features Beast, TipCee and DJ Tira. The music video which was released in July now has 1.5 million views on YouTube.

 

6. Iwalk Yephara – DJ Maphorisa

‘Nay le walk’ became a slogan everywhere, with dance challenges on social media all thanks to DJ Maphorisa, DJ Raybel featuring Moonchild Sanelly, K.O and Zulu Mkhathini for keeping us on the dance floor. The song has over 1.4 million views on YouTube.

 

7. Fela in Versace – AKA

The rapper released this track featuring hot Nigerian producer and singer, Kiddominant. Although twitter felt the music video wasn’t as classy as they’d expected, it didn’t stop them from watching it anyway. The video has over 2.6 million views on YouTube and it is listed on SABC Summer Song 2018 Preliminary Top 10.

 

8. Monate Mpolaye – DJ Sumbody

We’ve been dancing to Monate Mpolaye by DJ Sumbody featuring Cassper Nyovest, Thebe and Vettis for a while now. The song has over 1 million views on YouTube. And it’s in the Metro FM Top 40.

 

9. Club Controller – Prince Kaybee

Prince Kaybee released Club Controller last year, then followed with a remix this year featuring TNS, Zanda Zakuza LaSoulMates. The song’s music video has over 3 million views on YouTube.

 

10. Vur Vai

After the success of Ngudu and Spirit, Kwesta came back with this killer track. The audio has more than 1.3 million views and is also featured on Metro FM Top 40.

 

11. MALWEDHE – King Monada

We can all agree that this song, released in November put everyone into the festive mood. In the song, King Monada sings about getting fainting spells when his lover cheats on him. The song has a popular dance called Idibala. The music video was released on 13 December and the song is also included in the SABC Summer Song of the year list.
