In the most recent episode of Survivor SA, Mmaba Molefe was voted off the island with an immunity idol – and she regrets not playing it.
Speaking to DRUM, the 29-year-old said she ignored her gut feeling and chose not to play the immunity idol that would’ve saved her from being voted off.
“You know, I really regret not listening to my gut feeling, I should’ve trusted it more,” she laughs.
“Something in me was like, ‘play it now’ but another part was telling me to stop being paranoid and stick to the plan we had. Now I’m out,” she continues.
Mmaba is not the only person who left the island with an immunity idol. Last year, Palesa Tau was also voted off the Philippines island with an immunity idol after checking in with another contestant just before Tribal Council and being assured that she was safe for another week. But she’s grateful for having had the opportunity to be on the island.
“Before going there, I had a strategy for my game, that’s why I almost transformed myself from the everyday Mmaba, to the tough-looking cookie you saw – I didn’t want to be labelled as weak or anything like that,” she says.
So, who is the everyday Mmaba?
“Well, first of all I have a 9 – 5 job like most people, in Investment. I studied BCom Accounting and I absolutely love what I do,” she says.
Mmaba is also very passionate about underprivileged children, and apart from running her own NGO that cultivates young leaders and tutors Grade 8 mathematics in Gugulethu, Cape Town, she also volunteers at other NGOs close to her heart.
On weekends, this young investment analyst comes alive.
“I’m a very social person, so I like going out and spending time with my friends, chatting over a glass of wine – I love wine!” she giggles.
“If not that, then I’m indoors with my boyfriend watching stuff on Netflix and just hanging out,” she tells us.
The one thing Mmaba missed while on the island was… “definitely wine!”
