Local rapper Cassper Nyovest really stirred things up with his hit song Monate Mpolaye last year. The lyrics include the line “ha re batle Magapu mo” (we don’t want watermelons here) – a bit controversial considering his long-term industry rival, rapper AKA, has an endorsement with Cruz Vodka’s watermelon infused spirit.
The two hip-hop giants have been involved in Twitter wars since then, but last night someone unlikely was dragged into this big debate – motswako rapper JR felt Cassper’s wrath after commenting on an ad posted by American rapper Diddy.
"Introducing the new Cîroc watermelon flavour," Diddy tweeted, “The official drink of the summer is here!”
JR was quick to express his excitement: “Nazo! Not a vodka fan but being a South African and a marketing enthusiast I’m excited about this!”
