Singer Kelly Khumalo is no stranger to controversy. Two weeks ago, the 35-year-old posted a video on Instagram saying she’d been “summoned” to ask fans to pray with regards to the Covid-19 pandemic. This confused fans, with some even asking if she was intoxicated.

In the video, Kelly cried and pleaded with fans to get on their knees and ask God what they “want out of this situation”.

She’s also said she’d been “summoned” to make the request.

Speaking on Afternoon Express this week, Kelly opened up about the video and what was going through her mind when she made it.

“Anyone who knows me knows that I am a very spiritual person and I do have a gift in terms of spirituality – I see things and I feel things. And with so much that we are going through as a nation, I felt all sorts of things.

She further explained, “One voice that was loud to me was to ask people, plead with people, to pray and tell God exactly what we want from this situation because he is the only person who can put an end to this.”

Kelly shrugged off the hate on social media and said she will carry on being a spiritual person and not hide who she is because of people judging her because they don’t understand her.

The star and her sister, Zandile, also made headlines in February when Zandile posted a strongly worded statement declaring she was “divorcing” her sister.

And the once inseparable sisters haven’t been seeing eye to eye since.

This came after Kelly claimed her brother-in law Mhlo Gumede was a fraudster, using her name for an event and taking the money.

When asked how her relationship is with her sister, this is what she had to say: “The matter has been handed out to lawyers now.”

“Honestly, I am at peace with it. I am that one person who moved on when it is time to move on, whether you are family or not. When it is time to move on, it is time to move on,” she said.
