They say when one door closes another opens, and this has certainly proved true for Leleti Khumalo.

Nearing her last episode on SABC1 drama series, Uzalo, it has been announced that the actress will be starring in e.tv’s new drama series, Imbewu: The Seed, which will premiere in April.

Family secrets and treachery drive this compelling and ground-breaking daily drama, on which Leleti is an executive producer. It follows the unfolding story of two brothers and is set in KwaZulu-Natal, from the most-affluent parts of Umlazi to the humblest street in eNquthu and Chatsworth.

Imbewu is produced by Anant Singh (Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom) and Muvhango creator Duma kaNdlovu.

“The Seed reflects the multi-cultural environment which makes Durban and the province of KwaZulu-Natal unique. The show has the ability to cross the cultural divide and promote social cohesion in South Africa, showcasing a hybrid of cultures in South Africa today.

We are extremely excited to be embarking on this amazing television series in KwaZulu-Natal with our partners, e.tv,” says Singh.

Duma kaNdlovu – who was one of the producers on Uzalo, but walked away after an alleged fallout with fellow producers Pepsi Pokane and Gugulethu Zuma-Ncube – says he is excited to be part of the show.

“We, as storytellers, are very excited for this opportunity to tell an authentic South African story. I am excited to be partnering with Anant Singh and Leleti Khumalo as we prepare to give South Africans a new and unique story. In South Africa, we have not yet had the opportunity to see Indians and Africans come together to tell a story with a social cohesion message and Imbewu: The Seed will deliver this to audiences,” he stated.

Is it possible to be related by blood and not be family? Find out when Imbewu: The Seed airs on e.tv in April.

More cast information and premiere date to be revealed soon.
