Johannesburg - Condolences continue to pour in for legendary musician Robbie Malinga, who passed away on Monday. His untimely death sent shock waves across the country. The 47-year-old multi award-winning artist took his last breath at his home in Fourways, Johannesburg, on Christmas day surrounded by family.
Speaking to DRUM, his best friend and business partner, TK Nciza, said; “Robbie died peacefully at his house. He had invited his entire family and his wife’s for Christmas lunch at his house, and around 17:30 he passed away peacefully”.
Nciza says his friend “had a blood issue and I am not familiar with it”.
CEO of the Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA), Nhlanhla Sibisi, said; "To say Robbie Malinga’s death is a loss will be an understatement. This was one of the best this country has ever produced. A lot of musicians owe their successes to his magic touch as a producer, composer, arranger and vocalist. He was one of the most sought after hit makers in this country. His death is a definite end of an era and a sound we will not forget soon, what a devastating loss. We can never tell the South African music story without giving him a prominent mention”.
Ncisa says details of Robbie’s funeral will be released soon. Robbie was born on the 8th of November 1970 and died on 25 December 2017.
RIP Robbie Malinga.
