Omuhle Gela was inspired to create her own range of swimwear when she struggled to find costumes that fit her body type.
The curvy, yet petite, actress and businesswoman launched her first swimwear range – titled Twenty Swimwear – in 2014. Her second range came out in 2017 and now her latest range will be hitting shelves by June.
“I still haven’t come across a range of swimwear that’s designed for the African body – whether petite, curvy, short or tall – and that remains my motivation for designing my own,” she says.
Sitting by her drawing board sketching designs, Omuhle says her cozzies are trendy and cater for different types of African shapes.
“I have small breasts and curvy hips and like many women I need something that will compliment my body shape and not make me feel uncomfortable,” she says.
Omuhle prides herself on having exquisitely detailed items and for using luxurious fabrics. “It’s about comfort and making sure people pay for quality.”
The 28-year-old made her showbiz debut in 2012 on SABC2’s soapie Muvhango and her career has flourished since then.
Omuhle says she has matured and learned to appreciate herself and her craft and to respect her followers and the people who buy her product.
“People have been supportive since I started my career.”
Omuhle’s range will be available on her website: twentyswimwear.co.za
