Taking to her Twitter page, the actress wrote, “Everyone who thinks the only merit I have in my career is skin colour can go suck it. Keep using my skin colour as a comfort for your own failures.”
Everyone who thinks the only merit I have in my career is skin colour can all go suck it. Keep using my skin colour as a comfort for your own failures. Niyanya. Tsek.

This fiery tweet was in response to a Twitter user who said that Pearl Thusi is not talented, she is just light skinned.
The topic of “colourism” stirred a lot of emotions amongst tweeps but majority were in defense of the Pearl, saying that Pearl shouldn’t mind the negative comments because her work speaks for itself.
These were some of the reactions.
Never mimd them sthandwa a person who doesn't have goals will always try by any means to put down the person who does? do you, thina abanye we see the talent in you??

Instead of acknowledging the colourism conversation and trying to at least understand it, you choose to completely disregard the role it has played in your career and many other careers alike. It would have been better to have said nothing if you're not up to date on the topic.

Speaking of her career. As much as you think it has contributed to it, it has very much cost her a fair share of opportunities as well. So whether you black or white, colour shouldn't play a factor at any given time but the talent or capacity of one to carry out any opportunity.

I didn't say it has contributed. I am calling her out on her blatant disregard for the colourism conversation. I believe it's a conversation that should be happening, but not with such profanity.

Pearl went on to say that people are attacking her like she’s the only light skinned person who is successful, and dared people to go for other celebs such as Beyoncé and Diana Ross.
& 15 years of hard work I've put in means Jack shit here.

Recent BET Award winner Sho Madjozi also expressed her views about people’s comments about her doing well in the music industry because of her skin colour.
I cant be expected to stop being great because colorism exists. But I can try to use my platform to speak out against colorism, I MUST speak out when I see people being treated unfairly because of color and I can try to amplify the voices of talented dark skinned women.

The issue of skin colour has been a topic that is trending lately. In a recent interview with SiriusXM, Beyonce’s father -Mathew Knowles said that Beyoncé’s light skin benefitted her music career and that there is a study that proves that there is a higher rate of light skinned women who are successful when compared to darker skinned women.
