Cape Town - Michelle Williams – one third of the legendary girl trio Destiny’s Child – is engaged.
The singer announced her engagement to Pastor Chad Johnson to People magazine.
The 37-year-old musician revealed that her soon-to-be hubby Chad actually popped the question a month ago and the two have been secretly engaged this whole time.
The Say Yes singer said “yes” to her bae after a year of dating and says she can be herself with Chad. “What kept drawing me and drawing me at first was I felt like I could be myself,” Williams says of her fiancé.
“My first name is Tenitra, my middle name is Michelle. I felt like I could be Tenitra. I didn’t have to have on any makeup – he just made me feel very safe in being myself.”
Chad, a pastor and pro sports chaplain, admits he thought he ruined their friendship when he tried flirting with the gospel singer. “I tried to roll in with some mac daddy game – and I tried to flirt a little bit and said something like, ‘How about you and I connect sometime?’” the 40-year-old pastor told People.
“And right away, she texted right back with one word and six question marks behind it, ‘Connect??????’ I thought she had dissed me. So I was embarrassed, and I didn’t reach back out to her because I thought I’d ruined the friendship.”
But all was not lost, clearly, because Michelle says she can’t wait to be his wife. “We do wanna get married very, very soon. We’ve been moving very quickly and planning. Why wait? I want to get married now, but he wants a wedding!” she said.
The two have already started planning their wedding and her former bandmates and friends Beyoncé and Kelly Rowland will definitely be there. “I’m trying to figure out [if] I want the whole bridesmaids, groomsmen thing,” she said.
“I think I just want everyone to come and have it be intimate and party. Should I make my bridesmaids list? Of course they’re [Beyoncé and Kelly] going to be on there!” And if her Instagram account is anything to go by, Michelle is very much in love!
