Johannesburg - The abuse allegations against R Kelly keep on coming.
This time the singer’s ex-wife, Andrea Kelly, broke down in tears during a TV appearance as she alleged that she suffered years of abuse during their 13-year marriage.
Appearing on Sister Circle, the former dancer said it wasn’t until she took part in a domestic violence questionnaire that she finally realised the extent of his abuse.
“God, I need an answer today, not tomorrow, not in an hour, I need it now and the first thing God told me, He said, 'Grab your laptop,'... and once I grabbed the laptop, He said, 'Put in domestic violence,’” she tearfully recalled about her experience, “I kept scrolling and at the end of the domestic violence awareness website, there was a questionnaire. There were 17 questions and they ask you, ‘Has your abuser ever done...?’ Of the 17, Robert had done 15 to me.”
Speaking on the singer’s state of mind at the moment, Andrea believes that he is currently not surrounded by people who are willing to tell him what he is doing is wrong, “I don’t believe that my ex-husband has enough people in his life to be real with him, to be honest with him, who care about his healing, who care about these families healing, and I feel like it’s God’s time.”
Andrea also explained why it had taken 10 years for her to speak out against R Kelly, who she shares three children with, “I was not strong enough. How can I be a voice for the voiceless when I don't even have my own?... So, I had to wait until God said, ‘OK, daughter. It's time.’”
Andrea’s allegation against the 51-year-old add to accounts told by various other women including his former girlfriend Kitty Jones who in her book, I Was Somebody Before This, accused the singer of being violent towards her and having a “sex cult of women.”
