Cape Town - Popular sports broadcaster Robert Marawa has revealed that he recently he ended up in ICU after suffering a third heart attack last week.

Taking to his Twitter page, the former SuperSport presenter posted a 2 minute and 20 second video in which he explained how he had driven himself to the hospital after feeling a pain and as a result, ended up in ICU for six to seven days.

"I think everybody knows about my two heart attacks that I’ve had. I’ve had to be admitted and I’ve had to have that checked on a regular basis. And the same thing happened last week," he began.

"I literally drove myself from home after not feeling well and I said 'let me go and admit myself' because there was a pain that was not making any sense. And within a couple of hours, I was in ICU and that’s where I’ve been for the past six or seven days."

Although the 46-year-old has shared how he has now moved from ICU to the recovering ward, he says his life was on "the brink of life and not living."

The Sportscaster ended off the video by encouraging people to take care of their health by getting regular check-ups and keeping fit.

"A health journey is a personal journey. But I’ve always made it public that we need to get our numbers checked," he explained.

It is not the first time that Marawa has found himself in ICU, during an interview on Radio 2000 in May shortly after being axed from Super Sport, he revealed how he had to fight for his life in ICU after he was allegedly threatened.

"I’ve been threatened, I was in ICU in June/July last year. My sister was shattered when she walked in, she saw a corpse. But people don’t know that because I don’t talk about that. The thing is if my life has to end because of a passion and a job that I do then so be it," he told Phat Joe.

Messages of support have been pouring in for Marawa, with many wishing him a speedy recovery.
