Actress Nomvelo Makhanya will be the hosting her very first Mental Health talk and the actress couldn’t be more excited.

Nomvelo shared the exciting news on her Instagram page early on Friday. “A lot of the things that happen are because of God’s own accord and timing. I am over the moon. I’m proud to announce that I am having my FIRST EVER mental health talk at @untitledbasement@artivistjhb . And I would like to extend the invitation to you and yours. I hope to see everyone there. To God be the glory” she wrote.
The 23-year-old has been very vocal about the
importance of mental health, especially after she was viciously
cyber bullied in 2018.
Speaking to Drum she touched on her plans to help others.
“My friends and I go to schools and talk to learners about mental health,” Nomvelo told DRUM. “We want to remove this stigma that’s linked to mental illnesses. It shouldn’t be taboo to talk about it.”
“If you suffer from depression or anxiety or any form of mental illness, cyberbullying affects you immensely. That’s why some kids commit suicide these days, because of things that are said about them on social media.”
The actress revealed that she had been diagnosed with depression and anxiety in 2016, and after being cyber bullied about the shape of her head, it’s no wonder that she will jump at the opportunity to express issues around mental health.
“This is why I decided to speak up. I wasn’t going to be quiet any longer – plus I’ve always been a person who if I don’t like something, I will speak.” She said.
