Singer Zolani has taken to her social media to share her personal story with her followers.
The Freshly ground former lead singer opened up about being violated as a child and shared how she has healed from the ordeal.
“Today is a good day,” she wrote.
“Today I told a story I have been keeping inside me for three decades. A story which kept me locked in place. As an 8 year old who made a decision. To escape. To escape mind and body from the hurt and confusion of emotional and physical brutalization. Escape became a natural form of coping with the world. I survived life this way for years and years. Up until today. Today I am ready to do more than survive. Today I am ready to thrive. Today I am ready to say to the world that I was violated as a child. That I was hurt. Deeply [sic].”

Without going into much detail about the traumatic experience she went through as an eight-year-old little girl, she explained that she was violated and hurt.
As a result, she felt a lot of shame and carried a load that wasn’t hers to carry for 30 years.
She added that she’s finally choosing to let go of all the pain she carried into her adult years, and encouraged all other victims to do the same:
“The feelings of shame and imperfection I carried from that time on I am ready to let go of. Today.
“…I hope you will find it in yourself to tell someone trustworthy this part of your story. Don’t let it take 30 years before you can say “This was not my fault,” Zolani wrote.
This is not the first time Zolani has shared what she went through when she was younger. In June, she shared an existential crisis she went through as a teenager.
