Former professional soccer player Teko Modise took the opportunity to man-up and finally forgive his father for abandoning him.

Teko Modise has rekindled his relationship with his father Steve Segkaila, who abandoned him when he was eight-years-old – which led him to end up on the streets. The soccer star opened up about being abandoned in his memoir The Curse of Teko Modise.

While forgiveness may seem like a hard thing to do especially from a child to a parent, Teko shared some powerful words about forgiveness along with a picture of himself with his father.

“Never Thought I Would Actually Say This ,Never Mind Posting The Only Pic I Have Of Us,Forgiveness Is Important For Peace,Sanity & Growth..MY DAD” he wrote.

While this may seem like a huge step for Teko, Steve had previously tried to reconnect with Teko when his soccer career started booming, through a Khumbule’khaya on SABC 1. Teko found it hard to accept his father since he did not know whether it was sincere or just because he was famous.
