South Africa’s much loved prison drama, Lockdown is about to get a lot more exciting thanks to the addition of another dangerous inmate.

Tichina Arnold, who is known and loved for her role as the loud and bossy Rochelle on American comedy series, Everybody Hates Chris, will be gracing our small screens as Pauletta on season three of Mzansi Magic’s Lockdown.

In a sit-down interview with DRUM, the award-winning actress shared some of her best memories throughout her career as well as her excitement of landing on the South African shores for the first time.

“My first impression of South Africa was seeing Bart Phillips’ face and Mandla’s (Mandla N) face welcoming me. It was really nice to have such a warm welcome and everybody has been so warm and so enduring and so gracious,” she said.

The bubbly 49-year-old actress also revealed how discovering the best African food places and listening to house music was on her to-do-list during her stay in the country.

Having worked on numerous television productions with actors such as Martin Lawrence and Terry Crews, the actress admits that she has seen pretty weird things that some of her co-stars and herself do behind the scenes.

“A lot of times the main cast members don’t like to be in scenes with a lot of the atmosphere characters because they take the opportunity to ‘hey, can I get your autograph?’ ” she explained.

“Celebrities do a lot of weird things, like I’m kind of a weirdo. I am a germ-aphobe , I don’t even drink after my daughter so most of the time I don’t want to eat the mass produced food and we sometimes play cards and do the simple things that keep us grounded.”

Having a potty mouth and befriending crew members are some of the moments she treasures most during the filming of television productions and the actress hopes to do that with the Lockdown cast.
