Former US first lady Michelle Obama has dished how hubby Barack popped the question during an argument.
Speaking to American talk-show host Stephen Colbert during an interview on his show, Michelle revealed she and the former prez went out for a celebratory dinner when Barack initiated one of their usual arguments on marriage.
“He was like ‘You know, let’s talk about this marriage thing’ and then he got me revved up,” explained Michelle, who is currently on a publicity tour for her memoir, Becoming.
“He picks a fight and so I deliver because I too am a lawyer and I have my points to be made. So I was in full making-my-point mode. I was like, ‘Three and A and if you think and dah-dah-dah’.”
As she was explaining why she thought marriage was important a waiter came out with a little box. “By then dessert was coming out and the waiter put a platter in front of me with a little box with a ring on it. In the middle of the argument,” she recalled.
“[Barack] opened up the box and he said, ‘Now that ought to shut you up’.”
The couple, who recently celebrated their 26th anniversary, remain one of the world’s most influential and iconic duos.
