Wendy Williams faces backlash for telling men to “stop wearing our skirts”

American talk show host Wendy Williams has caused a stir and faces backlash for saying gay men should “stop wearing our skirts and heels” during an episode of her daytime talk show.

NBCnews reports that during the Hot Topic gossip segment of her show, The Wendy Williams Show, the 55-year-old asked who in the audience would be celebrating Galantines Day.

A trend which according to PAGE SIX is a valentines alternative popularized by American sitcom Parks and Recreation where women celebrate other women in their lives as instead of romantic relationships.

As women stood and gave a round of applause, a few men in the audience joined in and Wendy jumped in with a few unsavory remarks for them saying “Well, first of all, if you're a man and you're clapping, you're not even a part of this," "You don't even understand the rules of the day. It's women going out and getting saucy and then going back home. You're not a part." She added.

The host went on to express her strong opinion about men who choose to wear feminine clothing. “And stop wearing our skirts and our heels,” she said, which some interpreted as a dig at "Pose" star Billy Porter. "Just sayin' girls, what do we have for ourselves?" she continued.

Newsday reported while she was applauded by some, the LGBTQ community on social media did not take kindly to her comments,
