Johannesburg - Kanye West and Kim Kardashian received backlash following a visit with Uganda’s anti-LGBTQ president, Yoweri Museveni. The rapper is recording material for his next album in the East African country.

Ye and Kim gifted Museveni a pair of signed Yeezy sneakers and the Ugandan president returned the favour by gifting the couple with Ugandan names. Kanye received the name Kanyesigye (I trust) while Kim was named Kemigisha (the one with blessings from God).

The couple have been slammed on social media following the meeting as homosexuality is illegal in Uganda and gay people are discriminated against, arrested and tortured, reports Daily Mail.

A source told People magazine that Ye is considering extending his stay in Uganda and would like to become involved in higher education in the country.

“He wants to get involved in creating a tourism and hospitality school for higher education,” the source said.
