Not being able to register at university due to owing tuition fees is a sad reality for many South African students, but when this student shared her situation on Twitter, she never imagined that musician Zonke would come to her rescue.

It all started when a student, Bubu Sithole (@Bubu_s), revealed how she was going back home since she couldn’t afford to register due to having outstanding fees.

“I’m currently packing my bags and going back home because I have outstanding fees and can’t register. I owe R29k &they want 17k for me to register provisionally,” she tweeted.

In a detailed thread, she also revealed how she had tried to apply for NSFAS and how she reached out to the Free State MEC of education for help but was unsuccessful.

“I was rejected by nsfas twice in a row even after I sent thru my mom’s death certificate and my dad’s disability papers.

“Went to the MEC for Education in Freestate and they said they cannot help me because I’m from Johannesburg. I applied for a fundi eduloan it was declined. I’m gonna send through an appeal for Nsfas again this year. My heart aches so much, I just wanted to go to school. That’s all [sic],” she continued.

Luckily for her, Tonight hit-maker Zonke saw her tweet and offered to help.

“Have you left yet? Please let me help you stay in school,” Zonke said.

And a few hours later, the student told tweeps that her fees had fully been paid by the musician.

“@Zonkemusic paid for my fees guys,” an emotional Bubu wrote.

“Besengilahle ithemba. UThixo uyaphila. This was all part of God’s plan. Registrations were closing on the 7th and were extended to till the 14th. Today my outstanding fees were paid up, I’ll be registering on Monday. It was all God’s plan,” she said.

And since then, tweeps have been sending praises Zonke’s way with many saying they will stream all her music because of her gesture.
