Popular Afrikaans musician Kurt Darren went viral for all the wrong reasons after singing the national anthem at Varsity Cup rugby match between the universities of Stellenbosch and Pretoria on Monday night.

Even though Twitter had a field day mocking the his rendition, there’s been a few times in the past that other celebrities sang the national anthem wrong.

South African singer Kurt Darren spoke to Channel24 following public criticism for muddling up the second verse of the national anthem at the FNB Varsity Cup final in Stellenbosch on Monday.

These include Rasta Dumisani, Haylea Heyns and Ard Matthews – and we’re giving you the top five times, it all went wrong.

It is worth mentioning that he once sang the national anthem correctly before when the Springboks were up against World XV in 2014. However, the sound system failed him halfway through the song.
