Just last Tuesday, local musician Dr Malinga revealed that his wife, Boitumelo, was expecting twins and today they were born.

The Akulaleki hitmaker took to Instagram to share the exciting news that Boitumelo had given birth to two healthy boys, named Lingo and Legend.

Speaking to Move!, the proud father said, “I am very happy and in them I can see power of God. This is a day I have been waiting for and I am thrilled that it finally arrived.”

However, due to the strict lockdown regulations, he could not be present with his wife in the delivery room and this broke his heart.

“I am sad that I could not be able to hold my wife’s hand, but I had to respect the restrictions and rules placed by our president to minimise the spread of coronavirus,” he says.

His twins have quite unique names and Dr Malinga says there is good reason for this.

“I wanted names like stage names, not something common. I wanted unique names that are not there yet,” he says. “But both these names are what most of my friends address me with.”

Lingos comes from his surname Malinga and Legend is a name he was called by his late friend, Themba Phungula, who used to say he was a legend for having so much energy anytime of the day no matter what he was doing.

The lockdown has forced the now-father of five to rethink celebrating his wife and the twins’ births the way he wanted to. But apart from that, he is happy that his boys are healthy and Boitumelo is fine.

“I planned to slaughter two cows for my children as a way to welcome them. But because of corona, that won’t be happening. And I was hurt that I also couldn’t throw my wife a baby shower because of the same reason. But apart from that, it’s happiness all the way.”

In 2018, the pair welcomed their third child, a boy named Linga Malinga.  Dr Malinga’s older kids are very happy as well about the arrival of the new additional members to their family, and even hope their dad will write a song about the twins.
