Good deeds never go unnoticed.

In 2018, CPUT Retail Business Management graduate Siyamthanda Dondolo was in dire need of a calculator to use for his exams but he could not afford one.

With nothing to lose, the then student took to Twitter and reached out to TV personality, Boity, for help – and she responded!

A year later Siyamthanda has graduated and according to him, it’s all thanks to Boity’s act of kindness towards him.

Speaking to Move! he explained that whenever he needed to prepare for a test or exam, he shared a calculator with one of his friends, which was a very frustrating situation to be in because whenever his friend needed the calculator he would go without one.

“I didn’t ask my mom for money because she had just sent grocery money and I knew she didn’t have any more. I have six siblings and my mom was unemployed at the time. I didn’t want to pressure them, so I had to make another plan,” he explained.

“A week prior to when I asked for a calculator on Twitter, I had failed a previous test because I didn’t have a calculator, it costed me a lot,”

“I remember seeing Boity’s tweet, where she said she wants to give back. I thought to myself here is a chance and I took it. It never crossed my mind that she’d reply to my tweet, but she did,” he recalled.

Siyamthanda tweeted: “All I need is a calculator, can you please help me out?” and the Bakae rapper immediately responded, asking for his contact details so she can send him the money.

The 20-year-old said that the whole experience was unbelievable.

“After Boity tweeted that she’ll send the eWallet, it felt so unreal. I was still processing it even on my way to the ATM, I couldn’t believe it. On that day, I received 10 times more notifications on Twitter and my followers increased drastically.”

After he received the money from eWallet he posted a thank you message to Boity with a picture of his brand-new calculator.

“Thanks again @Boity for the eWallet. Here is proof of purchase. I will never forget what you've done for me and thank you for trusting me with your money, many didn't,” he wrote.

A year later Siyamthanda has graduated and he didn’t forget to thank the woman who played a part in getting him there.

“Hi @Boity not sure if u still remember me. Your kind gesture a year ago is one of the things that made this day possible. I graduated this morning. Thanks again,” he tweeted.

“We should use Social Media to uplift and help each other. I shared my tweet because I wanted to show people that there are still genuine people like Boity out there, a person who can help without knowing who they’re helping,” Siyamthanda explained.

“I would like to say to Boity; Thank you, I want to thank her for her kindness. Continue being kind and helping many others like me. Continue to trust in people’s stories. Thank you Boity” he said.
