From a very young age, gospel singer David Sejake knew that his calling was to minister to people and spread the Word of God and the message of healing.
He developed an interest in singing while he was still young and sang in school choirs. From then on, he chose to focus on gospel music.
PRAISE AND WORSHIP
“I realised how I love music, specifically gospel music. I love praise and worship. When people ask me why I don’t enter competitions like Idols SA, my answer is: ‘I just want to sing gospel music’,” he says.
David strongly believes that the gospel industry is where God wants him to be.
“Gospel music speaks life where there is no life and hope. This is a platform where I can tell people about God and what our lives would be without him,” he says.
GOING THROUGH REJECTION
David tells Move! that he has been through a lot but his faith kept him going when he was rejected many times.
“The first audition that I went to was with Joyous Celebration, but things didn’t go as I had hoped they would,” he says. “I then went to the I Want To Sing Gospel auditions, but things still didn’t work out. I was devastated. I felt like I was treated unfairly. But I later started to understand how the industry works.”
He explains that after meeting gospel star, Kgotso Makgalema, who encouraged him to keep going, everything changed.
“I felt a very strong connection between myself and him from the word go. God made it possible for us to meet. Our relationship kept on growing and I thank God for him,” says David.
