Just three episodes into the show, fans of Mzansi Magic’s new drama series Gomora are already asking for more – and we can’t really blame them.

The show, which premiered on Monday and quickly captured the attention of viewers, tells a story of inequality. It’s about the rich and the poor, and how fine the line between the two can be. It follows the lives of two families as their worlds collide.

A woman manages to escape from her humble township roots and makes it big as a hotshot Sandton socialite. But then a series of events sees it all come crashing down around her and suddenly she’s back where she started, in the hustle and bustle of Alexandra township. And while the township is just down the road from her previous life, it feels like a million miles away. More than that, she finds herself at the heart of its underworld.

Starring new talent as well as renowned performers Katlego Danke, Zolisa Xaluva, Thembi Seete and Connie Chiume, the series kicked off with a focus on the Ndaba family. The wealthy family consists of Thathi (played by Katlego), an ultra-rich trophy wife living a life of luxury in Sandton,  her bank-owner husband Mbongeni (Themba Ndaba) and their two bratty children, Nobuhle (Amamkele Qamate) and Langa (Siyabonga Xaba).

They treat their staff with disrespect and each other with disdain. But things aren’t always as they appear, and it’s soon revealed that not only is Mbongeni having an affair with his secretary, he’s also been embezzling from the bank.

The thrilling storyline has pulled everyone in right from the start – and viewers just can’t wait for the next instalment and the one after that, and so on.

Reacting to the show, viewers couldn’t stop singing praises to those involved in the production. It was these reactions that saw the show trending at No 1 on Twitter.
