The Department of Sport, Arts and Culture Limpopo has come forward in regard to allegations that MEC Thandi Moraka kicked XiTsonga musician Dr Thomas Chauke off stage mid-performance at the Annual Mapungubwe Arts and Cultural Music at the weekend.

It’s alleged that MEC, Thandi Moraka personally grabbed the microphone away from XiTsonga music legend during his performance for unknown reasons.

The statement, which was published on the department’s Facebook page, read,  “The department want to make it absolutely clear that the MEC never grabbed the Microphone from Dr Thomas Hasani Chauke, had any contact with him on the stage or uttered any words of hatred towards Xitsonga Music and in particular Xitsonga speaking people.”

The department shifted the blame of what transpired on the stage managers.

“The department would like to apologize to Dr Thomas Hasani Chauke for the way he was treated on stage by the stage managers. There was a crossover item which was planned prior and that’s what led to this unfortunate incident involving Dr Thomas Hasani Chauke,” they wrote.

They further added that The MEC met with Dr Thomas off stage after the unfortunate incident on the night and apologised with the manner in which he was treated on stage by the stage managers.

“I stopped playing and the MEC didn’t come on stage. The programme director started introducing other artists. I was booked for a 45-minutes set and this came as a shock,” Dr Thomas told the Daily Sun.
