He has come a long way from his
days of Soul Buddyz and presenting e.tv’s Craze and Zero Tolerance.
Mpho Sebeng (25) now plays in the
top league with the best in the entertainment industry. Viewers have come to
love and appreciate him for his outstanding work. Mpho speaks to Move! about
not getting caught up in fame and his love for outdoor activities.
PASSION VS FAME
While growing up, the charming Mpho
took part in school plays and choral music. “When I was in primary school, I
was part of a big play and my mother's friend, who was an actress at the time,
scouted me and became my agent.
She helped me audition for roles
she believed were suitable for me,” he says. Mpho from Witpoortjie in Roodepoort
has now made his mark in the industry but his focus is more on his craft than
being a celebrity.
“I got into the industry because I
am passionate about acting and storytelling. I came into the industry to serve
my purpose and use my God-given talent,” he says. “Fame shouldn’t consume you.
Many people get caught up in the hype and because there is so much noise that
comes with that, they end up losing sight of why they even started in the first
place. They lose sight of the bigger picture.”
BEING ON THE THRONE
On Mzansi Magic’s The Throne, Mpho
plays the role of Goitseone, a commoner who falls in love with a Motswana
princess. When the princess is brutally murdered, Goitseone is the first
“As a character, I see a story
about the privileged and the disadvantaged and my mission is to tell the story
of the have-nots,” he says. “I feel not enough stories are told about the less
fortunate and if they are, they are not told well enough.”
HIS OUTDOOR ADVENTURES
When he is not shooting, the former
Ring of Lies actor enjoys doing outdoor activities. “I really like being outdoors.
Activities such as hiking, camping, mini quad bike adventures and just being in
the wild with animals feels like home,” he says. Asked if he has a girlfriend,
the adrenalin junky simply says, “Can someone please tell Cinderella I found
her glass slipper?”
The actor, who lives by the motto, “if
you still have a pulse, you still have a purpose”, has his eggs in more than
one basket. Outside of acting, Mpho is also a businessman. “I run an events company
called, In The Mix, which I started a few years ago with two of my friends and
it has been nothing but bliss,” he says. “I am also busy with a solo project
for a fashion line, which I plan on releasing some time this year. It is
something I am very excited about and hope it will be well received.”
