Cape Town - They were the gospel stars who moved the country with their beautiful voices and powerful music but has time has gone by they’ve slowly disappeared from the music scene.

Move! looks at a few award-winning gospel artists that were big in South Africa a few years ago but have since moved away from the limelight and we ask: where are they now?

1. SECHABA PALI

Sechaba Pali, who was known for some of South Africa’s biggest gospel hits broke into the industry in 2003 after joining South Africa’s biggest gospel choir – Joyous Celebration.

He went on to make a name for himself with singles such as Khetha Eyakho and Eloyi. We have seen less and less of him since releasing his last album in 2015 titled Praise and Worship.

Sechaba, however, made headlines last year after marrying his girlfriend of less than a year, Tumi Makapalla.

Speaking to Move! about the wedding the star said, “I thank God for her. There was no order in my family. I'm grateful I got her. I'm blessed...” We hope to hear a powerful single from him real soon.

2.      KEKE PHOFOOLOGospel star born and bred in Sowto, Keke Phofoolo  was known for her beautiful music but he was also followed by scandal after scandal.

He was known for songs such as Mona Mona and Checheche, which are still popular today.

The leader of the Shekinah Glory Worship Tabernacle is still performing across the country. Early in the year the artist had a show in Mogale City, those who attended said it was impressive.

3.      Kgotso Makgalemela

Kgotso is another man of God with music that has touched many South Africans. Even though he isn’t present on social media and hasn’t released new music in a while the artist still performs at gospel shows.

Some of his biggest singles include Messiah and Breathe both released in 2013. In 2018 gospel artist David Sejake spoke to Move! and said encouraged his career in music.
