Yizo Yizo is undoubtedly one of South Africa’s most loved series. It got South Africans, both young and old, talking as the series tackled issues affecting the lives of people in the township community and its high school learners.

20 years since it first aired on our small screens seasons one and two of Yizo Yizo are now available for streaming on Viu.

Due to it’s raw and sometimes gruesome content, most parents barred their kids from watching it. however, now that those kids are of a suitable age, they can now catch up.

The series first aired in 1999 and ended on its third season in 2004. It was set in a fictional township high school named Supatsela with a dictatorial principal. However, gangs come to sell drugs and at times assault girls and some teachers in the school.

The series brought to the screen fresh and new faces who today still struggle to shake off those characters even after two decades. The stars who are still on our screens today include Meshack Mavuso, Israel Makoe, Charmaine Mtinta, Jet Novuka, Lorraine Mphephi, Ernest Msibi and Ronnie Nyakale to mention a few. Some of the cast has sadly passed away such as Jabu Christopher Kubheka, popularly known as Gunman and Tshepo Ngwane who played Thiza.
