Cape Town - A new Empress South Africa 2020 was crowned at Suncoast Casino on Monday.
20-year-old Annikie Rabohlale from Pretoria took the crown, beating out 60 delegates from around the country. Empress South Africa 2019 Tshepo Makupu, took her final walk as she crowned her successor at the spectacular grand finale.
The glitzy affair was hosted by radio personality Mike Mathaba and actress Kajal Maharaj.
According to the Miss Empress organisation, Annikie stood out from her competition based on her #Undefiable campaign and confidence during the question and answer portion of the pageant.
The student's family joined her on stage after her name was called, in an emotional display of love and affection.
The organisers describe the Empress South Africa pageant as a "women empowerment contest that consists of various tasks and online challenges that uplift and empower young women and their communities."
Miss South Africa 2019 finalist, and model, Xia Narain, coached the delegates in pageant etiquette, modelling, confidence and poise.
Annikie Rabohlale will receive a prize package including an undisclosed cash prize.
In 2020 she will embark on her journey as Empress South Africa 2020, by promoting women empowerment through her campaign #Undefiable.
