Cape Town - In a recent photo shoot Miss South Africa 2019 Zozibini Tunzi wore the same gown Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters wore when she competed in Miss Universe 2017.

With the entire country backing her, Demi-Leigh walked away with the winning title in Las Vegas that year.

Anel Botha Couture designed the famous green velvet floor-length evening gown, Demi-Leigh wore during the preliminary part of the competition.

"What was great about this gown was that green is one of the colours of the year (also the colour Demi requested) and she stood out from all the other contestants who were wearing similar colours. This fabric is velvet and had a large structured bow on the back for a little drama," Anel wrote on Facebook in 2017.

Anel also designed the gown Demi-Leigh wore during her crowning - which was bejewelled with 30 000 Swarovski Crystals.

Sharing a photo of herself wearing the gown on Instagram, Zozibini wrote: "I stand on the shoulders of giants, the women that came before me. They ran so that I could walk and I'm proud to be part of a sisterhood of women that have inspired millions, including myself to be their true and authentic selves."

Adding her signature style to the pre-loved garment, Zozibini pulled down the sleeves, to reflect an off the shoulder look.

She jokingly added: "Hopefully some of its magic rubbed off on me!"

The 25-year-old public relations graduate will represent the country on the global stage at Miss Universe in Atlanta on 8 December.
