Johannesburg – Sasha-Lee Olivier made South Africa proud when she made it into the top 40 at the 69th Miss World pageant in London on Saturday 14 December.
The model made history when she became the first plus-sized contestant to take part in the Miss South Africa pageant in August, walking away with the runner-up spot.
Under the tutelage of pageant coach Werner Wessels, Sasha-Lee prepped to take on participants from all around the globe on the Miss World stage.
Contestants arrived in London a few weeks prior to the competition, partaking in small challenges along the way that would add to their final scores.
Sasha-Lee caught the attention of pageant fans during the first head-to-head challenge when she spoke eloquently about her Beauty with a Purpose campaign.
Even though the beauty queen did not make the top 12 of the competition, South Africans were still proud and showed their love for her on social media. The title of Miss World 2019 went to Jamaica's Toni-Ann Singh.
With Zozibini Tunzi now wearing the Miss Universe crown, Sasha-Lee will take on the duties of Miss South Africa 2019 until a new queen is crowned in 2020.
